Breast Thermography
DITI... Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging can detect abnormalities in breast tissue 8-10 years earlier than a mammogram. It uses neither radiation nor compression. Instead it utilizes a special camera which detects the heat variances coming off the breast and digitally creates images which show "hot spots", or areas of unusual vascular or metabolic activity which might be caused by cancer.
The procedure is completely non-invasive. The breasts are never touched during the procedure. The patient is asked to disrobe from the waist up and to wait 15 minutes in a cool, 68 degree room. This allows the skin of the breasts to equilibrate to the room temperature and gives a more accurate infrared image. A short series of thermographic images are taken as the woman stands in front of the camera with her hands on her head. The images are captured in real-time and available for immediate viewing although the interpretation of the images is done later by a specially trained doctor. The doctor's report is mailed to the patient within 2 weeks and includes interpretation of the images, suggestions for follow-up care and evaluation of a woman's risk factors. Copies of your images are included.
This technology is excellent for women with breast implants, mastectomies, lumpy breasts or anyone who is concerned with the potential risks associated with compression or cumulative radiation exposure. It is also a highly effective way for pre-menopausal women to monitor their breast health, particularly women under forty, whose denser breast tissue makes mammography less reliable. Any young woman with a family history of breast cancer owes it to herself to have regular thermograms as part of her breast care program.
We are dedicated to educating the public, preserving the breast and saving women's lives.
