For Breast Cancer Prevention

5. Say Goodbye

Skip these foods to lower your risk for breast cancer:
• Red Meat, particularly grilled, charred or fatty cuts
• Why? Studies show that women who consume red meat 5 times per week have a 44% higher risk than women who eat it twice or less each week. This is especially true for "hormone receptor positive breast cancer". The growth hormones that are given to conventionally raised meat are implicated. Whatever that animal had in its body winds up in our body. This is especially true of the fat, where toxins like synthetic hormones are concentrated. The risk is increased exponentially when we charbroil the meat making it crispy on the outside. The high heat required to barbeque meat turns natural substances within the meat into carcinogens.
• Sugar and chemical sugar substitutes (Splenda, etc)
• Why? Sugar feeds cancer. It ages our cells and bodies. It creates a high glucose load in the body which leads to insulin resistance, weight gain, hormonal imbalances, and diabetes
• Chemical Sugar Substitutes are unhealthy. These include Splenda, Nutra-sweet, and saccharine. They have all been implicated as carcinogens in laboratory studies on animals.
• Sodas, regular and diet types
• Why? For the same reasons as sugar and artificial sweeteners. Did you know there are 12 teaspoons of sugar in a cola drink? Would you set your child down with a spoon and a bowl with 12 teaspoons of sugar? Of course not! But every time you give your child a soda that is exactly what you are doing. Plus, the high phosphorus content in sodas, particularly the diet drinks women are so fond of, leach minerals from the bones and contribute to osteoporosis! If you have a teenager who drinks a lot of cola and is active, studies show she has a risk 5 times greater than average for bone fracture due to osteoporosis. Because of the high phosphoric acid content of colas, they leach calcium from the bone to act as a buffer for the acid (make sure you read the pH Problem article to better understand this). Teenagers are laying the foundation for the bone mass that they will enter into adult life with. Please don't let your kids drink colas! And if you have any concern for your own bone health, and I'm sure you do, you mustn't drink them either!
• Fried foods
• Why? Not only are they high in fat and therefore very caloric and predispose us to weight gain, but frying foods at high temperatures activates carcinogenic substances that can damage our cells. High heat also creates trans-fats, which lead to chronic inflammation.
• Foods with Trans-fats, hydrogenated fats
• Why? Trans-fats damage cell membranes and leave cells more vulnerable to oxidation and DNA damage. Click here to read about inflammation, related to trans-fat consumption.
• Boxed, processed foods, loaded with chemicals
• Why? Processes foods almost always contain trans-fats, which damage cell membranes and leave cells more vulnerable to oxidation and DNA damage. They also contain vast amounts of chemicals, preservatives and "flavor enhancers" such as MSG: a known exitotoxin that kills brain cells.
• Microwaved foods, especially heated in plastic
• Why? When heated, plastic releases carcinogens such as benzenes into the water or food. Microwaving also seems to alter the molecular structure of substances in ways which are detrimental to health. I once saw an interesting article on the Internet, showing the effects of giving water, which had been microwaved, then allowed to cool and used to water a houseplant. A second houseplant of the same variety and size was watered using tap water. Within a month, the plant given microwaved water was dead and the tap water plant was lustrous and healthy. Hmmm...
• Alcohol
Why? Alcohol raises our risk for breast cancer by 11% with each daily drink consumed. It converts to sugar and formaldehyde in the blood, increasing insulin-resistance and taking a heavy toll on our liver, which has to work that much harder to detoxify our systems.
• "White Foods", white flour products, pasta, white bread, white rice, white sugar
• Why? These foods also convert to sugar in the blood stream and cause insulin-resistance and weight gain. They tend to cause constipation, which raises our risk for colon cancer. White flour products are devoid of any true nutrition. Commercial wheat is heavily sprayed with chemicals, including mercury, a metal many people already have leaching into their system through their mouths from old "silver" fillings. This only adds to the burden of heavy metal toxicity that many people unknowingly suffer from.
• Conventionally raised meat, dairy, poultry & eggs, try to always go organic... same with produce
• Why? Conventionally raised meat, dairy, poultry and eggs are pumped full of hormones & anti-biotics to make them grow bigger and therefore more profitable. But then those anti-biotic and hormone residues wind up in us; along with all the residues from the toxic-sprayed feed they ate, which is highly concentrated in the animals fat. This contributes to the Estrogen Dominant conditions of many women today who have high levels of xenohormones in their systems, especially their breast tissue.
• Organic produce also contains higher levels of vitamins and minerals, because it is not grown in depleted and deficient soils, so it is more nutritious than conventionally grown produce.
• Water that has been sitting for prolonged periods of time in plastic, especially in a warm car
• Why? When heated, plastic releases carcinogens such as benzenes into the water or food, which go right into your tissues and cause damage to DNA when ingested.
• Foods cooked in Teflon or aluminum
• Why? Micro-particles of a substance called perflourooctanoic acid or PFOA, are released during cooking, especially at high heat and are absorbed by the food and our bodies. Even the fumes of Teflon are toxic! You should never heat a Teflon pan empty, as this is when the most toxic fumes are released. These fumes can quickly kill small animals like pet birds. Once inside our body Teflon particles become carcinogenic. Aluminum has been implicated in causing Alzheimer's disease, among other problems. When aluminum comes in contact with anything acidic it releases molecules, which have a very detrimental effect on human tissue.
INSTEAD HAVE:
•Fresh, organic fruits and vegetables
•Organic, free range meats, dairy and eggs
•Whole grains, organically raised
•Stevia or Xylitol sweetener
•Foods without transfats or hydrogenated oils
•Flax seed or olive oil, raw
•Coconut oil for heating
•Steamed fish
•Foods without preservatives, artificial flavorings, etc
•Foods cooked in cast iron or enameled cookware
•Filtered or spring water from glass bottles
I encourage you to use this as a starting point! Take these subjects and do your own "google" or other Internet search and see what you find. I think you will find the results to be very enlightening!
